SBPC Projects

SBPC currently works across a number of projects including running the Health Devolution Commission and the East of England APPG.

  • The Health Devolution Commission brings together two former Secretary of States for Health, Andy Burnham and Stephen Dorrell, with three former Health Ministers including Norman Lamb, Alastair Burt and Phil Hope. They are joined by senior professional figures from the health, mental health, local government and third sectors.

It continues to advocate for a devolved approach to healthcare delivery and accountability. Following its report - Levelling Up Health - launched in summer 2021, it has promoted a series of changes to the Health and Care Bill in the House of Commons and House of Lords.

  • The East of England All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) brings together the East of England’s MPs and Peers with elected local leaders – and the private and third sectors – to give a strong political voice for policies which support the East of England’s economy and promote its potential as a place to work, study, live and invest.

In 2021 the APPG in partnership with EELGA launched its joint report Achieving Sustainable and Inclusive Growth: The East of England Offer. This sets out four priorities: delivering a ‘climate positive’ region; sustainable and inclusive growth; improved connectivity and decarbonisation; and financially resilient councils.

  • The Liverpool City Region All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) works as a forum for key issues affecting Liverpool City Region to be addressed collaboratively by Parliamentarians from all parties as well as stakeholders from business, the public and third sectors.

The aim of the LCR APPG is to provide a strong voice for the city-region in Westminster, working alongside the Metro Mayor and local leaders to help maximise future investment and growth for the benefit of the communities throughout the city-region.

SBPC works in association with DevoConnect to provide the Secretariat for the LCR APPG.

  • The APPG on local authority pension funds was set up “to discuss the issues and concerns of local authority pension funds and the work of the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum”. Its main focus is the role of pension funds in corporate governance and shareholder activism.

Following a year long inquiry in 2021 it published an influential report “Responsible investment for a just transition to net zero.”
